heela-1
The plantar fascia is composed of dense fibrous tissue, and is divided into three portions (central, medial and lateral). It courses under the fibro-fatty heel pad to insert into the medial calcaneal tuberosity. This is the site where a “heel spur” typically forms from calcification if the facial insertion due to chronic inflammation.

heela-2
In addition to the plantar fascia, some ligaments attach to the medial calcaneal tuberosity, and several small muscles arise from there.
